On page 38 of A New Kind of Christian, there is a quote that I love. "I want you to invest your lives not in keeping the old ship afloat but in designing and building a new ship for new adventures in a new time in history, as intrepid followers of Jesus Christ."
While reading this book, I needed to look up a lot of words on M-W.com. I was glad that I did on this quote especially. Intrepid means= characterized by resolute fearlessness, fortitude and endurance. What does this quote mean to you? What does it bring about in you?

I took this comment as a call to end the "status quo" of our journey (ie. read my Bible - check, prayed - check, went to church - check...)- these of course, are all good, but when they become part of our daily check list of to do's, they become just that - a chore. We are called to "blaze a new trail" so to speak. Why do you suppose Christ walk on earth caused such a stirring among the "religious"? I believe Christ walk on earth showed us the example for "designing and building and sailing a new ship for new adventures in a new time in history". We are called to something so much bigger than we know. It's time to stop "playing church"- lets be fearless and bold as we embrace the sometimes frightening waters, and the beautiful days, of this exciting journey.
Times are changing! We are at the beginning stages of a new thing - a reformation, a reformission, a revolution - something new. It is almost like God is hitting the reset button on church and our understanding of what it means to be a Christ-follower.
It is not like the old ship is bad. It is good, it has paved the way for us to build the new ship. This new ship involves a new way of thinking about our new world.
I want to be a new kind of christian - one that makes a difference - who reflects Jesus.
This is a great book!
I loved that comment for a few reasons. 1 is that it calls for us to build a new ship, not just hitch a ride on one. 2 is that in the same breath I was thinking "Man that is scary! How am I supposed to do that?" he shut me down he said intrepid. I can't be scared. I can't be tired.
